We apologize for taking so long to update our site but our week has been busy. First, Jackson handled the stem cell transplant like a champ with no complications. The nurses were correct, however, the smell was atrocious and did resemble a very strong, very bad smelling creamed corn. The day after the transplant we were sent home. Of course, we were sent home with more nursing supplies and medicines then you can imagine. We are now trained to give some medicine through his broviak, we also hook him up to a hydration bag at night, which comes with the standard green and red lights and some beeping, similar to Jack's friend "Pole". In addition he gets oral medicine morning, noon and night, which he has learned to spit right back out at us. Our biggest hurdle this round is food. I have spent the majority of my day in the kitchen preparing every food Jack has ever eaten and then some, only to get the same response... "Icky". Sometimes icky is said softly, sometimes it is yelled but it a very consistant response to all foods. We have pulled out all the stops with even the Burger King fries getting a not so warm welcome. Kelly has had the task of eating various foods to try to make them look appealing, so while Jackson has lost 2 pounds, Kelly has gained ten. Wyatt has the job of eating all the food that Jack rejects, so he is eating like a king and has now slept through the night twice in a row.
We have heard that taste buds change, that food takes on a metallic taste and so food has now become our issue. We are going to try again today but will most likely have to return to the hospital for some IV or tube feeding......Thank you for checking in on us, we'll keep you posted.

Keri, wish I was there with you in the kitchen, what a pair we would make concocting foods for the Milkman.
Hey Milkman, you can do it,,,, just a few bites!!!!!!!
We love you!!!!!
Hang in there Jack! The food won’t taste like metal forever… I hope you can find something that tastes good to you! You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. We love you! XOXOX…
We hope you find something that’s good to eat soon! Thinking about you all the time.
Hugs and kisses,
Auntie Lauren, Aaron, and Lexi
That is such a precious picture of you, you handsome young boy!! I hope your appetite comes too soon . . . i’ve always had a thing for mcdonalds fries...(i think it’s all the salt). We love you and are keeping you in our prayers! xoxo
In no time, Jack will be stuffing those BK french fries in his mouth with Wyatt and Kelly! Hang in there, this is just another hurdle you guys will overcome soon with your little fighter. Love, Auntie Sam
Hey Jack,
I am so glad to get the update and even happier you went thru your procedure like the Superstar you are!!!
Now, as for the eating department we have to make mommy & daddy a little happier, so how about a bite or two?? I know Tommy & Nicky always like their homemade Jamba Juice when they are not feeling so hot (please never tell them about the bonus things mommy sneaks in!!). Or how about you and Wyatt helping mommy make some of the food, my two gourmets love eating their own creations versus mine!!?? I am sure Mommy & Daddy would get a big kick of you and Wyatt cooking it up and even a bigger one if you eat it!!! Hang in there and keep fighting.
Jackson, you are a real hero for everyone! And so are your mommy & daddy! You are all amazing. Hope you finally found something that sounds good to you and that you didn’t have to go back to the hospital. We are all cheering for you and can’t wait until you’ve kicked this in the “bottom”!!! We miss all of you.
love, the Halsteads
